voyage to davey jones’ locker

Friday, October 19th, 2007

avast, me hearties, here’s a board game i made last year for a game competition… Voyage to Davey Jones’ Locker! it is a blast to play and was thoroughly kid tested during development.

you are one of four pirate captains who sets sail from Port Royal, moving your little model ship around the board, rolling pirate dice, braving a possible strike by a randomly moving Kraken, fighting off competing captains, collecting treasure cards, whirlpools, storms, and lastly, the chance to win a dice game against Davey Jones himself. it even has a cool backstory that kicks off the voyage (see the instructions below if you are curious). the fights and the dice game at the end are the highlight for most people — it took a while to work out a fair system for this.

two full versions of the finished game were produced, complete with cards, dice, treasure chests, figurines, rules, and a gilt box. the boards (which measure 2 ft x 3.5 ft) were printed on four laminated sheets which were placed together to make the board.
