Serby photos

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

serbsitephoThere’s a ton of our studio and location shots of David Serby posted over at his cool new website.

With a new record “Honkeytonk and Vine” hitting the airwaves any day now, we should be hearing quite a bit from David in the next few months. He’s one of the most exciting things going on in country music here in So Cal right now, and we’re proud to be part of his team.

Hollywood Sign site enhancements

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

hst-1Just completed an upgrade to the Hollywood Sign Trust website, bringing the Seeing The Sign area up to date. The centerpiece is an interactive map of the Los Angeles area, showing simply where the best locations for viewing and photographing the Sign are.

Clicking on any location in the map takes you to detailed information on that location, including live Google Maps with directions, location photo samples, nearby attractions, and parking information.

hst-2
Also added a cool pop lightbox effect for the photo samples, which uses a compact script to bring a nicely rendered window right over the regular content.

hst-3
We also rewrote all the content to bring it up to date.

The Janks

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

The Janks are a great new rock band with a sound like a modern Queen. We went for an old school vibe with these photos, which were shot in Laurel Canyon at the home of their manager and the surrounding countryside. Lots of saturated and unsaturated colors, natural imagery, great lighting conditions, and some very patient band members.

Airplanes and Bands

A press shot of LA rock band Sugarwall, taken quickly near a runway at LAX.  No, that lightning bolt isn’t real, though the plane is.  Higher res version is forthcoming…

Dream Drivin’

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

A beautiful record from a beautiful person, Lorie Doswell, recorded out of Ed Tree’s famous Treehouse Studio in the valley. The sound, which is rootsy Americana and folk, suggested imagery of nature and old things, and we were fortunate to find an old 60s Chevrolet truck to shoot with out east of Los Angeles in the Lancaster area. The dream-oriented theme led to a ghostly transparent background on the cover, and we shot her pictures to evoke the casual charm and confidence that is heard throughout Lorie’s music. The cd design is borrowed from the truck’s weathered speedometer, with the shiny disc surface showing through the numbers and rough edges. The design is 6 panel digipak with clear tray, matte finish.

Sugarwall promo

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Sugarwall has started using photos from our recent shoot in their promo materials.  Here are two samples — higher res versions will be posted soon.

The shot with the airplane was photographed right at the edge of LAX, and that plane was really flying by at the time.  The lightning, however, was added by the band.
